Why should you convert HEIF to BMP?

Converting modern HEIF (efficient HEVC-based format, 50% smaller than JPG) to primitive BMP (uncompressed 1986 format, enormous files) makes almost no practical sense - you're converting from cutting-edge compression to obsolete uncompressed format. BMP offers zero advantages: massive file sizes, no transparency support, no modern features whatsoever. Converting HEIF to BMP creates massively inflated files - a 2MB HEIF photo becomes 15-50MB as BMP depending on resolution - while losing all of HEIF's compression efficiency and advanced features. This conversion only makes sense for extremely specific legacy scenarios: vintage DOS applications, Windows 3.x software, certain proprietary industrial/medical equipment with hardcoded BMP requirements from the 1980s/90s. For virtually all use cases, convert HEIF to PNG (lossless with reasonable sizes) or JPG (universal compatibility) instead. HEIF to BMP wastes storage space and offers no practical benefits.
